5Ks and Runner's Trot

First virtual 5K and first ever race ever — what could go wrong?

I finished my first virtual 5K and first race ever! Woo!

Lots of running, but way more walking 😂

Out of the 27, 376 participants, I finished at #22,403. Not bad.

Though I feel like I could've done better, like be #22,402 or even #22,401! But no... you wanna know why?

My belly started hurting during the 5K run (I went to a local park for the special occasion). And I've never walked home faster than ever. I had to power walk my way back home coz the park doesn't have a single porta potty. This has happened three times to me now, and I finally had the good sense to look up what the deal was.

It's runner's trot.

Basically you feel the need to go #2 during or after a run.

No fun.

So the strategy is eat 3 to 4 hours before I run. then do some kind of workout to see if I that helps. Maybe even coffee during run days.

I'm glad I'm learning about these funny things now instead of when I'm starting marathon training (let alone the actual marathon).

My first in-person 5K is coming up this September, and I'm just feeling confident I'll be able to do it.
